Hey kids, long time, no post. LIT is busy at work on issue 15, which will be coming out in the spring. We know that's later than previously promised, but trust that it's going to be an amazing issue. It's our official 10th anniversary release, and it's chock full of features and poetry, prose and art that will blow your mind, your mom's mind, and your dog's mind, if your dog is aesthetically inclined.

And yes, LIT will be at AWP Chicago! Please come find our table, purchase discounted copies of LIT 13 and 14, grab a LIT button (new!) and take a subscription form! We'll also be handing out teaser fliers about LIT 15 and all the good stuff it will contain.

We may also have chocolate. :x

For the curious, we are currently taking submissions and will be until May. Here's everything you need to know...

- Contributors must receive a reply from LIT before submitting new work; additional submissions received before we have sent a reply to a previous submission will be returned unread!
- Our reading periods are from September to mid-December and January to May. Do not submit more than twice in either period.
- We do not consider submissions filed by professional coordinating services.

Hi folks,

We are busy bees here at LIT, gearing up for production on LIT 15, which will (hopefully) be out in late winter/early spring. All current submissions will be considered for LIT 16, in case you were curious.

LIT will be in attendance at the 21st Annual Indie & Small Press Fair on December 6 & 7! Admission is FREE!

The fair, as always, is hosted by the New York Center for Independent Publishing and will take place at the General Society at 20 West 44th Street in NYC. Come for the one-of-a-kind events and stay to buy books and copies of lit mags for your stocking stuffers (and maybe a few for yourself).

And don't forget to visit the LIT table! We'll be in the grand company of other lit mags including Guernica, H.O.W., and more! And we'll be offering special discounts on copies of LIT, as well as subscriptions! Huzzah.

Reader bios:

Noelle Kocot’s first two books, 4 and The Raving Fortune, were published by Four Way Books in 2001 and 2004, respectively. Her book, Poem for the End of Time and Other Poems, was published by Wave Books in 2006. Sunny Wednesday is forthcoming from Wave Books in spring 2009. Noelle has won grants and awards from The Academy of American Poets, The American Poetry Review (The S.J. Marks Prize), The National Endowment for the Arts and The Fund for Poetry, among others. She lives in Brooklyn, where she was born and raised.

Will Comerford has worked as a music journalist and a medical writer. He lives in Brooklyn. His stories have appeared in The Greensboro Review, Zone 3, and Fourteen Hills.

Heather Christle is the assistant editor of jubilat and blogs for the Kenyon Review. Her poems have recently appeared or are forthcoming in Boston Review, Fence, NO: A Journal of the Arts, Skein, and Tarpaulin Sky. She lives in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Irina Reyn’s first novel, What Happened to Anna K., is forthcoming from Touchstone/Simon & Schuster. She is also the editor of the nonfiction anthology Living on the Edge of the World: New Jersey Writers Take on the Garden State. Good News and More Good News

As per the title of this post, we can finally announce that LIT 14 will be available very soon and the official launch party will be Friday, June 6th. Stay tuned for more details, like location/readers, etc.

More good news? Former LIT editor-in-chief Justin Marks was announced today as the winner of the 2008 New Issues Poetry Prize for his manuscript, A Million in Prizes. The book, due out in 2009, will be Justin's first full-length. Congrats, Justin!

P.S. As mentioned in the last post, May 15th was the last day for submissions to LIT until September. If you want to submit work at this point, please wait until September 1st, or your work will be discarded.

It’s going to be an emotional evening.

Reader bios:

Caroline Conway edits the online journal RealPoetik. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in New York Quarterly, ology, luzmag, and the Outside Voices 2008 Anthology of Younger Poets. The first line of “Song for the Inanimate” is taken from Samuel Beckett’s novel Malloy.

But at any rate. Adam Golaski was in our Brit Lit class. We both considered him to be one of the most pretentious people we'd run across at Emerson College so we used to share Golaski stories. In Brit Lit he was one of those fucking stereotypical tossers who wore the fucking corduroy or tweed jacket with the professor elbows and would read aloud whenever the professor wanted someone to read a selection of whatever poetry we were studying with the book held up in one hand and about 3 feet away from him as though The Norton Anthology of English Literature were Yorick's fucking skull itself. He says, “Google my name for some more pretentious bullshit.”

CAConrad's childhood included selling cut flowers along the highway for his mother and helping her shoplift. He escaped to Philadelphia the first chance he got where he lives and writes today with the PhillySound poets (http://PhillySound.blogspot.com). Soft Skull Press published his book Deviant Propulsion in 2006. His book The Frank Poems is forthcoming in 2008 from CHAX Press. A small selection of The Frank Poems was translated into German in 2007 by Berlin poet Holger, and is now available as a bilingual edition chapbook from YPOLITA Press (http://theFRANKpoems.blogspot.com). He is the author of several other chapbooks, including (end-begin w/chants), a collaboration with Frank Sherlock.

Terese Svoboda has published nine books of prose and poetry, including Tin God (University of Nebraska Press, 2006). Her tenth, Black Glasses Like Clark Kent, a memoir, won the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize, and will be published in February 2008. Next spring she will teach fiction as the McGhee Professor at Davidson College and she will teach poetry at the Pan African Literary Forum in Ghana in July.

Robert Polito is completing a nonfiction book, Detours: Seven Noir Lives.

Stephanie Anderson's work has appeared or is forthcoming in American Letters & Commentary, Boston Review, Denver Quarterly, DIAGRAM, LIT, Painted Bride Quarterly, and Typo, and her chapbook, In the Particular Particular, won the 2006 DIAGRAM/New Michigan Press Chapbook Contest. She lives in Manhattan and teaches in Harlem and East New York.

Ed Park is a founding editor of The Believer. His short fiction has appeared in Columbia, Crowd, and the anthology Trampoline, edited by Kelly Link. His first novel, Personal Days, will be published next year by Random House.

Rebecca Wolff is the editor and publisher of Fence and Fence Books. Her own books are Manderley and Figment; she is at work on a novel, The Beginners.

Ishmael Beah is the author of A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, published by Sarah Crichton Books, an imprint of Farrar, Straus & Giroux. He now lives in Brooklyn.

Sampson Starkweather was born in Pittsboro, North Carolina. He works as an editor of science textbooks. - Yes, we will have a proper website soon. The New School is creating a new one for us and we hope to have it up and running by this June. But no promises.
- We're well aware that we're living in the dark ages with paper submissions. We hate them more than you do, believe us. Once our website is up, we will begin the switch to electronic submissions. Until then, keep licking those stamps.
- LIT 12 is running a bit late but will be out this May and will come with a spiffy launch party, so stay tuned for more details. LIT 13's release and launch will take place in the early fall.

LIT at AWP 2007 in Atlanta!

Hi, everyone. In an attempt to make our blog a bit more jazzy, enjoy some photos from our editorial staff's recent trip to the AWP 2007 conference in Atlanta, Georgia, from February 28th to March 3rd.

The Downtown Atlanta Hilton, where the conference took place. Swanky.

We shared a table with our friends from Redivider, RealPoetik, Kitchen Press, and Rose Metal Press.
